Right off the bat, you might be thinking to yourself, how are they gonna be able to use the standard fifth wheel hitch in the bed of a short bed truck Well, that's possible because they have a rotating pin box on their fifth wheel. It is actually a really, really good pairing. I would personally say, almost better than a sliding fifth wheel, because a sliding fifth wheel, you have to get out to give yourself more space to be able to make turns. Whereas if you have a rotating pin box on your fifth wheel, such as the Turning Point or the the Sidewinder, the Reese Sidewinder, those work perfect with this. more

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at Etrailer and today we're taking a look at the B&W Patriot sliding fifth wheel in a 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500. Something that I recommend to every person that is towing a fifth wheel with a short bed or not a long bed truck is going to be a sliding fifth wheel. There's other ways around, you know, preventing cab corners from getting crushed, you can get a movable pin box and that's gonna help a little bit, but this is a great way, if you're having to navigate in some really tight turns, to have that ability to be able to slide this back, give you that clearance to make that turn, and then you can hit the road after that. Otherwise, you are gonna be stuck with just kind of smaller angles than normal, otherwise you run the risk of damaging your truck. So this is a nice easy way to make that short bed still be able to tow a fifth wheel with no problem. Operate the slide function super easy on here. more

Hi, Matt with etrailer, and today we're talking about our B&W Patriot Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch on the back of our 2022 GMC Sierra 2500. Now this will be a great option for you if you are trying to haul and anything behind you and you have a short bed, because what that sliding 5th wheel is gonna do for you is when you are making those sharper turns, whether in a really tight neighborhood or when you are backing up into a campsite, this is gonna help keep that load behind you from making contact with your cab. So the scenario to think about is maybe you've reached your campsite and you need to back your camper up into the spot you found, and it's a little bit tight and you're at more of a jackknife position, so we're gonna probably have to push this slider back some so we can make that turn. So what we're gonna do is just reach over here and just throw this handle. Now if you are having issues reaching this, which is not too bad to reach, I find it pretty fine. But if you do find issues, what I recommend is just using your tire, step it up, and flipping that real quick. more

Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the B&W Companion Sliding Fifth Wheel for OEM-prepped Ford trucks. Now, today we have it in a 2024 Ford F-250. Now if you have the factory prep, or puck system as they call it, on your Ford, this is gonna be a great option, especially with those short beds because of the sliding function. And if you've towed fifth wheels before, you know that when you start to make tight turns with those short bed trucks, you can run the risk of damaging the cab corners with that fifth wheel hitting the truck. Well, the great thing about having a sliding fifth wheel means you can still keep your short bed truck and not have to worry about hitting those cab corners because when you make those tight turns, you can slide the head back, giving you more clearance. (metal thudding) Now in that sliding back position, you gain 12 inches of travel, and that's gonna make the world a difference when you get yourself into a tight situation where you just can't turn anymore but you really can't get out of there, sliding this is gonna allow you to get that clearance, make that tight turn, and get out of that situation. more

And if you don't have that longer bed with the extra, you know, foot and a half space up at the front, you're gonna have issues with the front of the nose of the camper making contact with your truck. Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider Instalaltion - 2018 Ford F-350 Super Duty- Video

Today on our 2018 Ford F three 50 Super Duty, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt Q series line of fifth wheel trailer hitches with slider for the Ford Towing Prep package. More and more nowadays we're seeing trucks that have shorter than eight foot beds on those which comes in a problem when we go to towing the fifth wheel, 'cause we want our hitch to be on the forward side of our rear axle, but that ends up putting our trailer extremely close to our cab. That's where our slider's gonna help out. When it comes time to make those tight turns, we can come to this vertical handle here on this side, we'll pull it out, rotate it back, and that'll allow the hitch to slide back a full 12 inches giving us more clearance to go around the turn. And we'll lock into position so we can make that turn without fear of hitting our truck. And then whenever we need to go in a straight line again and we're ready to tow, simply pull that handle out again, rotate it again and our hitch will slide back and lock into the towing position. more

How's it going, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2019 Ford F350 Super Duty, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with slider assembly, and this is gonna work with that Ford factory prep package. A lot of newer trucks nowadays are coming with shorter and shorter bed lengths and that can cause some issues with your stationary style 5th wheels and that's due to clearance. So with that shorter bed, the front of your 5th wheel trailer is gonna be closer to the cab of the truck. So in particular, for example, whenever you go to turn, since we're a little bit closer, you can have some issues with your trailer actually contacting the bed of your truck or the cab and damage it. So to alleviate that problem, we're actually going to be able to slide the 5th wheel closer to the back of the truck and provide us with that clearance we need. more

Now, today we have our fifth wheel in a 6 1/2' bed and that's why this is a great option. B&W makes some awesome fifth wheel hitches. They're some of my personal favorites. The quality's fantastic, but this one in particular, if your weight capacity is right at 18,000 or less, is gonna be a great option because, when you need to maneuver, you need a little bit more clearance so you don't hit your cab corners, you can just simply pull the latch, slide this back, it'll lock into place and now you can maneuver without having to worry about damaging your cab. Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with S25 Slider Review - 2020 Ram 2500- Video

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer, and today, we're taking a look at the Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch on an S25 slider with the OEM prep package. So, we have a standard rail system that works with that on a 2020 Ram 2500. Now, this system is gonna be a great configuration for those of you with a six foot bed and the OEM puck package on your Ram, and reason being is that's gonna allow you to slide as you need to make sharper turns and it's gonna just to head back, and that way you can avoid hitting your cab corners when you have to make those sharp turns. Now, this system, having the OEM puck systems, means that the rail, means that it's gonna bolt up to it and you're gonna get everything be able to drop in an ISR standard configuration, meaning that you can really drop pretty much any fifth wheel in and they do have ones that are already set up for the OEM prep package that drop in. The downside with that is unless you're planning on keeping your truck forever, that fifth wheel is gonna have to stay with that whereas with this system, you can swap out to a different fifth wheel or if you get a different truck, you can take this, get different rails, if it's a Ford or a Chevy, and be able to adapt it and still be able to use your fifth wheel. more

Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Review - 2017 Ford F-150- Video

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2017 Ford F-150. And when getting a 5th wheel hitch on a truck, you do wanna take into account the bed length. And this one being a relatively short bed at 5-1/2' means that you're gonna need something that's going to be able to slide back to make those turns. That way you're not making damage on your cab corners. And this one's a little bit different than some of the others on the market and probably the best fit for this because this auto slides. So as your pin box goes into these channels, when you turn, it'll actually rotate and automatically slide this back, giving you that clearance when you make your turns without having to go out and pull a lever and allow it to slide, it's gonna do it itself. more

Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with S20 Slider Review - 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500- Video

Hey guys, this is Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2023 Chevy Silverado 2,500 and we're gonna be taking a look at, I'm gonna go over a few details of the Curt S20 sliding base combined with the Curt A20 fifth wheel hitch. Now when we go over all these features of this combo there is also a Curt A16 head that is available that fits just like it does in here. Everything on the head itself is going to be the same except the weight capacity is gonna be a little bit lighter. This head is gonna have a 20,000 pound capacity and the A16 is going to have a 16,000 pound capacity. And one of the biggest downfalls of hauling a fifth wheel trailer in a regular bed truck, this is a six foot eight bed truck and one of the downfalls is that you don't have enough room to turn because the nose of your camper will make contact with the cab of your truck. more

Now right off the bat, what's gonna make this hitch fit perfectly in this truck is the fact that our truck is a six and three quarter foot bed. So, if you have a standard fifth wheel, those are typically gonna be best used in an eight foot bed, cuz you'll have more than enough cab clearance. That foot and a quarter extra that you get from an eight foot bed really helps to get you some cab clearance. Well, essentially that's what we're doing with this sliding hitch. more

This is gonna be one of the best options for a 5th wheel hitch that you can pair with a short-bed truck that is a five and a half or a six-foot bed truck. The way that this hitch works is that you're going to lock your kingpin into the head, and then the kingpin will no longer rotate inside here. It's going to take this, these sides and rotate this whole head, and the 5th wheel will back itself up as you're turning. So if you go to back into a campsite and you're turning, this is going to turn, and as it turns, it'll go back, and it'll give you 22 and a half inches of travel. more

So, if you're looking to install a fifth wheel hitch into your truck bed and you've got the factory puck system, that's definitely the way to go. Whether you go with this option from Reese or any of the other ones, either from B&W or Curt that you can find on our site, be sure to check our fit guide to find the right fits for your truck, you're gonna have a really easy time getting it installed because it just drops right into those existing holes, slots into place and lets you operate it like normal. Then whenever you choose to remove it from your truck bed, if you ever do, you've got full bed access because they don't have any above bed rails in our way, obstructing the truck bed. Now the Patriot is going to be a good choice for a lot of you RAM owners, because the bed sides are naturally a little bit higher than some of the other brands of trucks out there. This one has a bunch of different adjustability and that's just due to the amount of holes here that you can mount your arms. Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the BMW Patriot sliding fifth wheel on a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500. Now this is a particularly great option for this truck in particular because it's a six and a half foot bed. This is a sliding fifth wheel, so if you've ever pulled a fifth wheel with a short bed, you do kinda have to worry about cab clearance, especially with your campers. If you cut too hard, it's gonna smack the side of your truck and damage it in the process. And the great part about this is you can slide this super easy. Just lift that handle, push this back, and it's gonna lock in place. more

Those of you familiar with towing, chances are pretty good you've heard of the BMW name and there's a reason why they make really good parts. Everything's well-built and generally speaking is overkill, right And I always find myself kind of recommending BMW parts and is probably what I would use myself. And with that said, you know, one of the things that this hitch is gonna do is slide back. And the whole reason for that is for those of you with short beds, all right And, the reason that it's a good idea to use a sliding type hitch if you have a short bed is because you just don't have the clearance like you do with the long bed, right A long bed, the hitch is gonna sit further back and you're gonna have a greater distance here. more

What's up, everybody It's A.J. with etrailer.com Today, we're gonna be checking out the Curt Q20 5th wheel hitch assembly. And today we're putting it on the Curt adapter for the above-bed puck system that comes OEM with this 2022 Ram 2500. Right away we wanna point out that we are in a shorter six foot bed on this Ram. So this would really only work with a longer bed and eight for one just because of it's a static hitch, it's not gonna move around. So it would work with a slider. more

B and W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation - 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty- Video

Hey guys, Kevin here with etrailer and today we'll be showing you how to install the B&W Companion OEM 5th wheel hitch with slider base here on our 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty. If you own a newer Ford truck and you have the Ford towing prep package in it and you're wanting a 5th wheel hitch that can give you a little bit more turning clearance because you have a shorter bed and just can't make those tight turns like you could if you had an eight foot bed. Then the B&W Companion with slider base is going to be the hitch for you. With this slider base, it has feet designed to drop straight into the puck system that comes with your Ford towing prep package. The handles are super easy to use, simply just pull them out to unlock your hitch or, once you have your hitch dropped in, just pull 'em in towards the base and then lock 'em up with your pin and clip. This makes installation and removal for an empty bed to tow any other items, maybe you're moving some furniture, maybe you just wanna load this up with some other gear and don't want to have that hitch in the way, just makes it super easy to get it outta here. more

Hi, there, Ford owners. Today in your 2015 Ford F350 Super Duty, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install, B&W's Patriot 18K Fifth Wheel Hitch. And this is what our Patriot looks like when it's installed. It does just drop right down into your base rails and pin in place. We are using B&W's base rail kit but you can use another manufacturer's base rail kit and still use this fifth wheel hitch. I do recommend using B&W's though, 'cause that's gonna give you the cleanest fit and finish to get your hitch installed here. more
